ohhaithisjosh: Hard Questions. The purpose of these questions is not to debate, it’s to encourage you to think.

Lengthy list snipped. I quoted the parts I had a response to below.

ohhaithisjosh: Explanations aren’t meant to satisfy the genuine doubter, they’re meant to satisfy the believer enough to dismiss your doubts. When you don’t accept the explanation, the believer can then claim you have ulterior motives (like you just want to sin, or you want to be your own god), which gives them the moral upper hand. It’s not about having a sensible or logical explanation, it’s about having an explanation. But that doesn’t make your explanation true.

Daniel:

If God doesn't support slavery, then why does he suggest the appropriate price for slaves?

The Bible doesn't forbid slavery. The world is wrong to condemn it.

The Golden Calf How was a nomadic tribe that couldn’t find their way out of a small desert for 40 years able to build a foundry, sculpt a model and cast a golden calf statue, all in the space of a couple of months? For that matter, where did they get the hundreds of pounds of gold?

It says they all contributed their jewelry to make it. (Exodus 32:2 i) And it says Aaron used an "engraving tool" to make it. (Exodus 32:4 ii)

Why would a loving god force parents to eat their own children?
Bonus question: why would a loving god order the wholesale slaughter of children and infants? Not to mention oxen, sheep, camels and donkeys (or even, y'know, men and women)?

Because they are wicked. God who is love also creates most people for eternal destruction in the lake of fire.

How can something that loves you punish you eternally?

See link above.

Will you enjoy heaven knowing some of your friends and family are being tortured forever, and praise the one torturing them? Would you just forget about them?

Yes. The Bible says there won't be any suffering. (Revelation 21:4 iii)

As to your other questions. I don't know.

ohhaithisjosh: [Wow] mate, you really need to rethink your world view, it’s scary. Anyone who reads his opinions and doesn’t condemn this is worrying to me. Click his links. That’s what the Bible actually teaches, nutjobs like this guy are the ones who follow the Bible closest.

Thank you! That is a great compliment to me.

ohhaithisjosh: I had figured it would be. I assume you share biblical views about women as well then huh? And homosexuals? How about biblical views on hell?

Daniel: Yes, yes, and yes.

ohhaithisjosh: Jesus Christ, mate. Thanks for giving me a great example to point to when people accuse me of making a straw man, or “people don’t actually believe that, you’re demonizing Christians.”, I’ll just copy the link to your profile. Figure yourself out, bud.

Daniel: Cool!

  1. Exodus 32:

2 And Aaron said to them, “Break off the golden earrings which are in the ears of your wives, your sons, and your daughters, and bring them to me.”

  2. Exodus 32:

4 And he received the gold from their hand, and he fashioned it with an engraving tool, and made a molded calf.

Then they said, “This is your god, O Israel, that brought you out of the land of Egypt!”

  3. Revelation 21:

4 And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away.”

We still have slavery today, you just get to be a lot more flexible with your master... but without proper socialized income, everyone MUST enslave themselves to a company or stocks etc.

  2. Indeed. I don't necessarily agree that employment today is akin to slavery, but I see the prison system as being similar. Except that it is worse than Biblical slavery in that people are kept locked up in cells. I have heard that prisoners willingly take on unpaid labor just to get outside and do something different.
