I don’t think it’s a great way to approach the situation.

maxandchees: I have a certain friend who drags me into her suicidal life, and is overwhelmed with depression and anxiety. Please pray for Anna to be saved and accept Jesus.

Daniel: Tell her that if she commits suicide, she will go to hell.

maxandchees: Hey, thanks for the support but I don’t think she’s exactly scared by that, considering she isn’t saved yet. I don’t think it’s a great way to approach the situation.

Daniel: If she won't hear that part of the Bible, why should she believe? (Matthew 4:4 i)

maxandchees: Because He’s real??

Daniel: I mean, she isn't saved if she thinks she can commit suicide and not go to hell. Might as well lead with the part of scripture pertinent to her situation. And maybe it will terrify her enough to believe.

maxandchees: I don’t want her to be saved of how scared she is, but of how gracious our God is.

Daniel: If you don't fear God, you aren't saved. ii

  1. Matthew 4:

    4 But He answered and said, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.’ ”

  2. Romans 3:

    10 As it is written:

       “There is none righteous, no, not one;
       11 There is none who understands;
       There is none who seeks after God.
       12 They have all turned aside;
       They have together become unprofitable;
       There is none who does good, no, not one.”
       13 “Their throat is an open tomb;
       With their tongues they have practiced deceit”;
       “The poison of asps is under their lips”;
       14 “Whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness.”
       15 “Their feet are swift to shed blood;
       16 Destruction and misery are in their ways;
       17 And the way of peace they have not known.”
       18 “There is no fear of God before their eyes.

    Short and to the point. I'd have counselled the man to ask his friend "Are you willing to bet your life on the fact that God doesn't exist? Because if you fail, you will eternally experience greater pain than 1000 lifetimes of what you think you're experiencing now. If you won't take the net, repent and believe. Jesus has a plan and purpose for those who serve him and while it's a difficult life... It will be pure joy in comparison to the eternal punishment that awaits you on the other side of that [insert tool of suicide here]."

    Essentially I'd call the bluff. It's just attention seeking otherwise.
