Have one wife yet, Daniel?

This log is a continuation of a previous article.

GoddessUbasti: Have one wife yet, Daniel?
Daniel: Nope, I have zero wives.
GoddessUbasti: None of your church members available?
Daniel: There's a few.
GoddessUbasti: Well? What are you waiting for?
Daniel: What's the rush? I try to stay focused on fearing God and spreading the Word. If someone falls in love with me I'd marry them, why not.
GoddessUbasti: Falls in love with you? Versus you loving them as well?
Daniel: Well, as I'm a man, it's not such a big decision for me, since I could still marry others. Not that I wouldn't also love them, and I already do love them all. (Luke 6:32 i)
ljrbot: Luke 6:32 -- And if you love them that love you, what thanks are to you? For sinners also love those that love them.
GoddessUbasti: The point of that verse is that it's easy to love those who love you. But that's nothing special. It's easy.
Daniel: I think if someone was in love with me, that in itself would compel me to be in love back. ii
GoddessUbasti: What's hard is loving someone who doesn't love you, and in fact mistreats you.
Daniel: Exactly, it's easy to love someone who loves you; that was my point.
GoddessUbasti: Daniel, seems like since none of the single ladies in your church are expressing interest, you may need to expand your horizons? I assume not too many new adherents to your church regularly? :)
Daniel: I don't need to. But that's not a bad idea that we've even discussed. Preaching on dating sites.
GoddessUbasti: Erm. Sigh. "Missionary" dating is unethical. Arguably sinful.
Daniel: What's wrong with dating in general?
GoddessUbasti: No, I didn't say dating.
Daniel: If by dating we are talking about like.. going out to dinner and a movie.
GoddessUbasti: Dating the unequally yoked.
Daniel: Well just don't have sex with them obviously.
GoddessUbasti: Giving them the impression you're interested in learning more about them for the potentiality of a long term relationship. No, feelings are involved.
Daniel: Well I'd be upfront about my beliefs.
GoddessUbasti: If you missionary date, they fall for you, and/or you for them, then she doesn't become Christian...then what?
Daniel: Then move on.
GoddessUbasti: No. Then someone gets hurt. She gets hurt. That's messed up, Daniel.
Daniel: I don't see that as unethical. Maybe their love for me will compel them to believe.
GoddessUbasti: Ugh. I'm sorry to say that arguing with you as though you are my brother in Christ is not something I'm able to do. :( You make up your own morality, Daniel.
Daniel: Well we're not brothers in Christ.
GoddessUbasti: I'm saved, Daniel.
Daniel: A lot of people think that.
GoddessUbasti: I thought it before I was, yes. But I'm no longer the same person. There has been demonstrable change in my life. From the person I was before.
Daniel: So?
GoddessUbasti: So? There must be evidence showing you're no longer the person you were before, Daniel.
Daniel: Right, but what you've got is a false positive. iii
GoddessUbasti: There are criteria when one examines themselves to see if they're in the faith.
Daniel: Yeah, like believing the whole of scripture (which you do not).
GoddessUbasti: Daniel, I entirely believe in the whole of Scripture. :) Without a doubt. If anything isn't spelled out for you in black and white, regarding what should or should not be done, such as "thou shalt not murder," that apparently means to you that whatever it is is good to go. Well, last time I unthinkingly bring a seeker into any room you're in, Daniel. That was my miiiiistake. Oy.
Daniel: What could go wrong? The elect can't be taken from God's hand anyway. iv
GoddessUbasti: You're cavalier with that. :(

  1. Luke 6:

32 “But if you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners love those who love them.

  2. Darwin: I think that well describes loving your neighbor. But, not certain that it compels (as if he has to) a man to marry the girl. But, he certainly could.

I didn't mean it like I would be morally required to, but that it might be a sort of natural thing to happen. Like having my mind made up for me. ^

  3. Darwin: I like that statement.

  4. Darwin: Indeed, at the same time we are instructed to "work out [our] own salvation with fear and trembling." (Philippians 2:12) And, "you stand by faith. Do not be haughty, but fear. For if God did not spare the natural branches, He may not spare you either... toward you, goodness, if you continue in His goodness. Otherwise you also will be cut off." (Romans 11:20-22)

    John 10:

27 My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me. 28 And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand.

On what basis do you have to say "Yeah, like believing the whole of scripture (which you do not)."?

Darn. I forgot about html tags. Would be great if you allowed editing before moderation...

  3. It wouldn't be easy to allow such a thing as you imagine it, but it is already implemented in a way you aren't imagining it. Simply post the same edited comment a second time and I'll approve the good one and delete the bad one.

Regarding your question, isn't it obvious this person doesn't believe the whole Bible? This article is the last in a long series. GoddessUbasti clearly does not believe, as she disagrees with scripture on: calling unbelievers enemies, hating every false way, polygyny, drugs, and "missionary dating."

  4. [...] "You don't want to crush the young tender plant do you." I cannot take the elect out of God's hand. [...]
