Nate: What government were the 10 commandments given to?
Daniel: Israel
Nate: But that was before the nation of Israel was formed :thinking:
Daniel: Moses comes after Israel
Daniel: aka Jacob
Nate: Well, yes, I understand that.
Nate: But the government wasn't established yet
Nate: They were not a nation yet
Daniel: where does Scripture say that?
Nate: There's a reason I said "nation of Israel".
Nate: @Daniel where does Scripture say they had a government before they built a nation?
Daniel: when Moses was getting the law is a good place to look
Nate: When Moses gets the law it explicitly says this is for the government of Israel?
Daniel: it's the law for the children of Israel, the Jews
Daniel: Genesis 12:

2 I will make you a great nation;
I will bless you
And make your name great;
And you shall be a blessing.

Nate: But that doesn't say that Israel was a nation before they were in Palestine.
Nate: That's talking about Abraham.
Nate: Like???
Nate: @Daniel
Daniel: Genesis 25:

23 And the Lord said to her:
“Two nations are in your womb,
Two peoples shall be separated from your body;
One people shall be stronger than the other,
And the older shall serve the younger.”

Nate: Yes.
Nate: So where does that say that Israel had a government before they arrived in Palestine?
Daniel: it says it was a nation when still in Rebekah's womb
Nate: That doesn't mean it had a formalized government?
Nate: What even???
Daniel: Exodus 19:

6 And you shall be to Me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.’ These are the words which you shall speak to the children of Israel.”

Nate: "Shall" means it will happen.
Daniel: lol this is God speaking to Moses and giving him the law
Nate: Yes
Nate: Point?
Daniel: so in the context of being given the law, Moses is told it is for a nation
Nate: You honestly amaze me every day with how bad your reading comprehension is.

Darwin: Deuteronomy 26:5 says they were a nation while in Egypt, before the Exodus out of Egypt via Moses.
"And you shall answer and say before the Lord your God: ‘My father was a Syrian, about to perish, and he went down to Egypt and dwelt there, few in number; and there he became a nation"
See also,
"And consider that this nation is Your people.” Exodus 33:13
"You shall therefore keep My statutes and My judgments, and shall not commit any of these abominations, either any of your own nation or any stranger who dwells among you." Leviticus 18:26
"For they are a nation void of counsel,
Nor is there any understanding in them." Deuteronomy 32:28
