This recipe is for an ingredient in other more advanced recipes. It's a starter for many sauces, and causes them to be thicker.

Ingredients

These quantities are enough for one serving. They adjust fairly well up and down.

  • 2 TBS unsalted butter
  • 2 TBS all purpose flour

Tools

  • 1 quart saucepan.
  • Metal whisk.

Directions

  1. Melt butter in saucepan on low heat.
  2. Add flour, turn up to medium heat, and start whisking.i
  3. Keep whisking until just before it starts to turn brown.ii
